AN independent candidate in a Brent by-election says he will help stop over-development.

Robert Dunwell, a former Queensbury councillor, will stand for the Kenton ward seat alongside Tory, Labour, Lib Dem and Green candidates in a vote on Thursday, February 17.

He said: “First of all, residents are concerned about protection against over-development, especially building over back gardens and green spaces.”

He said traffic was another big issue and highlighted his experience opposing controlled parking zones, as well as criticising cuts brought in by the Labour administration on the council in response to reductions in funding.

The by-election was called following the death of Councillor Arthur Steel on New Year's Day.
