THE Lib Dem candidate for a Brent by-election says he wants to prove the area deserves better representation.

Chunilal Hirani is bidding to take control of Kenton ward following the death of Conservative Councillor Arthur Steel on New Year's Day.

Mr Hirani is targeting the Labour administration's record since it took control of Brent Council in May.

He claimed: “People’s bins will be emptied less, their streets swept less, their local library closed – all of which Labour decided on at a plush hotel in Buckinghamshire.

“The people of Kenton deserve better representation than that and I’d like to provide it.”

Mr Hirani is a former councillor and has lived in the borough since 1968, having been born in Nairobi, Kenya.

He is a supporter of the coalition Government, and supported giving extra money to councils that freeze council tax.

He has also been involved in the campaign to save Preston Road Library, earmarked for closure by the council.
