A WEMBLEY preacher has been found guilty of repeatedly raping a woman on seven consecutive days as a punishment for disobeying him.

Note: Defendant later acquitted. See here.

Paul Denton, 46, who legally changed his name to Lord Denton, put his female victim through “hell on earth”, a jury heard, as he repeatedly beat and raped her in late 2007.

The religious fanatic, who opened his home in Daventry up to the public to promote Christianity, was found guilty on Monday at Inner London Crown Court of seven counts of rape, one count of intimidating witnesses, and one count of sexual assault.

He has been remanded in custody to be sentenced on December 7.

Denton, who committed the crimes in Daventry but moved to Edison House, Barnhill Road, Wembley, returned from Russia in late 2007 after a month away preparing an airship to spread the word of the Gospels.

She challenged the preacher over his views and attitude, at which point he repeatedly punched her in the face, head-butted her, pulled out her hair, and raped her “day after day” as a punishment.

Denton was born in Croydon but moved to South Africa with his parents when he was eight months old.

He said he was kidnapped by his father after they split up and said during the trial “it was all over the papers here”.

He was forced to leave South Africa in 1981 after being part of a group that burned the national flag in a campus protest against apartheid.

During the course of the trial, Denton’s unusual past and behaviour was raised, including his alleged use of prostitutes, and the fact he would call himself the Messiah.

Denton denied all the charges against him, but was found guilty by a unanimous jury.
