STAFF at two Wembley pubs will stop pulling pints and picked up the trail of a charity bike ride tomorrow.

Fourteen drinking holes are joining forces in an effort to raise £10,000 by cycling 5,000km between them on fixed gym bikes.

The challenge is taking the form a round-the-world trip and all the pubs taking part have been given countries to base their challenge around.

The Preston, in Preston Road, was given New Zealand and as its team battles through the 400km ordeal there will be a performance of the legendary Haka, a tribal dance associated with the country's rugby team.

The Black Horse, in Harrow Road, has Poland and will hold a Polish barbecue with some of the country's speciality beers also being served.

The Duck in the Pond, in Kenton Road, has been given Greece and will hold its event on July 4, with a night called “My Big Fat Greek Party”.

Jodie Williamson, pub manager, said: “We are having a stationary bike set up in the pub and myself and the team will take it in turns to pedal like mad to do our bit of the ‘round the world trip'.

"It is going to be tough but we are looking forward to it.”

At the all-day event there will be a barbecue and a raffle with a DJ and karaoke in the evening.

All money raised will go the British Heart Foundation, which is collecting to provide defibrillators, devices used to help people with heart problems.
