AN eye witness has described the moment he saw a burning man walk “calmly” into a Colindale supermarket car park.

Police believe three men, thought to be Romanian, aged between 30 and 40 caught fire after receiving an 11,000 volt shock from wires at a sub-station in Capitol Way, at around 12.20am.

Richard Atkinson, 30, a delivery driver for Asda, said: “I saw the lights went out in the car park. I saw a fire coming from where the old factory is and I rung the fire brigade.

“Then I saw one guy walking calmly to his car while on fire. He was just walking. He wasn't running or anything and his two mates were helping him put the flames out.

“Then they drove off. I couldn't believe it. I was stunned.”

Two of the men are fighting for their lives, while the third is in a serious but stable condition.

They were taken to separate burns units.

Police are investigating the incident and have cordoned off a small section of Capitol Way.

The sub-station is based near a warehouse that caught fire last week, sending smoke pouring into Asda.

The whole building had to be evacuated after the blaze, at around 6.15pm, on Thursday.
