Carol Franklin-Adams has just turned 80, but she's not the type to rest on her laurels.

She has already raised more than £200,000 for ARUK (Alzheimer's Research UK) and is setting out today (Saturday, May 4) to  walk around the Isle of Wight, where she has a house.

She is starting in Brook this morning.

Carol’s husband Patrick died of Alzheimer’s three years ago. While he was living with Alzheimer’s, the couple used to fundraise together.

Now Carol is setting off alone – with the hope she’ll be joined by friends and family along the way – to raise awareness as well as essential funds for research, in the search for a cure.

The walk is 70 miles and Carol is hoping to walk 12 miles a day – whatever the weather!

If you see her, give her your support!

An ARUK spokesperson said: "No stranger to fundraising events, Carol has undertaken many other treks across the length and breadth of the UK – she is a force to be reckoned with!"

Carol said: "As an 80th birthday present, I've set myself a new challenge walking around the beautiful Isle of Wight coastline.

"Every three minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia."
