The Blossom Festival’s grand finale will be held in GWR Park on Sunday.

The free family friendly event hosted by South Swindon Parish Council from 11am to 3pm will be full of musical performances, heritage tours, games, nature-themed arts and crafts, and a unique community mural project.

Visitors can enjoy live performances from the young musicians of the Swindon Music Service, explore the park’s past with a guide, and play traditional Victorian games with help from the Mechanics' Institute Trust.

Artsite and The Post-Modern will lead a paint-by-numbers community mural project allowing attendees of all ages to pick up a brush and transform the substation on the western side of the park into a colourful work of public art featuring GWR Park’s heritage and the word “welcome” in different languages spoken across Swindon.

The substation, owned by Scottish and Southern Energy, had fallen into disrepair over the years, with the building covered in graffiti and suffering from structural issues.

SSE repaired the roof last winter, setting the stage for this public art initiative.

Nature-themed arts and crafts will also keep children engaged and creative throughout the day.

Cllr Rosie Leather said: "With the park in full bloom, it's the perfect time to gather as a community and experience the rich history, nature and talents of our local artists and performers.”
