London could be in with a chance of a white Christmas this year as weather forecasters predict that snow is heading to the region in the coming weeks.

The festive weather comes after weeks of icy conditions as winter temperatures finally settle across the capital.

But now the Met Office is forecasting that snow could be coming to the region sooner than we think and could be as soon as Friday (December 9).

The forecaster shared that snow is expected at around midday at the end of the week.

Harrow Times:

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Rebekah Sherwin, said: “Temperatures will start to dip this week, with daytime temperatures struggling to get above freezing in many places from mid-week onwards. However, the cold air from the Arctic will also bring brighter conditions, with some dry, sunny spells in many areas, particularly away from the coast.

“Showers will turn more wintry as the week goes on with a risk of snow at times. A yellow National Severe Weather Warning for snow has been issued for Wednesday covering northern Scotland. We can expect to see some snow and wintry showers further south as the week progresses, particularly in coastal areas or over higher ground. There will be widespread frosts with temperatures falling to as low as -10°C overnight in isolated spots by the end of the week.”

This week's London weather forecast

Much of this week will be similar to that of the start of December, with cold showers across much of the region.

The start of the week will see dark clouds for most of the day, with temperatures in the single figures and with an average of 7C.

Wind gusts will begin to pick up with speeds of 16mph across the region coming in from the North West.

Towards the end of the week, there will sunnier skies as clouds begin to depart, but temperatures will drop to low singles with an average of 1C.

On Friday, you can expect to see some snowfall, with a 30% chance at midday, but it might not last long with the chance of rain increasing.
