Harry Kane has sent his best wishes to the football legend Pelé amid reports he is receiving end-of-life care in a Palliative treatment unit.

The England captain commended the player as an "inspiration in our game" as he shared a heartfelt message to the footballer and his family.

The former Brazil player, 82, was reported to have been moved to palliative treatment after chemotherapy stopped having the expected results, according to the Brazilian daily newspaper Folha de S.Paula.

Pelé was diagnosed with colon cancer last September and spent two weeks in hospital in December 2021.

England Captain sends best wishes to Pelé amid palliative treatment reports

On Tuesday, the former football star was admitted to the hospital in Sao Paolo to evaluate his cancer treatment after he had the tumour removed last year.

Pelé thanked his fans on Instagram on Thursday for their "[ositive messages" and for sending him "good vibes".

In response to the news report, Kane said: "First and foremost, we send our best wishes to him and his family as well.

"He's an inspiration in our game, an incredible footballer and an incredible person."

Folha de S.Paula has reported that Pele was no longer receiving treatment for his cancer.

The Brazilian newspaper said that he would now only be treated for symptoms such as pain and shortness of breath.

Pele is said to have had general swelling and cardiac issues when admitted to the hospital earlier in the week, Folha de S.Paula said.

This is a detail that was also previously reported by ESPN Brasil.

Pele burst onto the global scene as a 17-year-old at the 1958 World Cup, helping Brazil to the first of their record five successes.

His injury affected his contribution to the 1962 and 1966 finals.

However, he returned to lead Brazil to a third victory in Mexico in 1970 as part of what is widely regarded as the greatest international team of all time.

Officially, Pele scored 757 goals in 831 games during a glittering career from 1957 to 1977.

Club Santos claims his tally was closer to 1,000.
