Frustrated residents hung up striking signposts in a bid to tackle antisocial parking outside their homes during the school run.

Neighbours in Hillside Avenue in Borehamwood say they have grown fed-up by the level of “inconsiderate” parking from parents who reportedly block their driveways and cause “daily gridlock”.

There are three schools along Hillside Avenue and although parents are encouraged not to drive directly up to their child’s school, residents say plenty do.

Barnet Council’s money-saving plans were dealt a blow after a bid to put advertising banners in a local shopping area was turned down by its own councillors.

A committee threw out plans for up to 29 temporary lamppost banners along East Barnet Road, Cat Hill and Church Hill Road, in East Barnet Village, during a meeting on Tuesday.

The banners would have been installed in roads leading to this junction stalled as part of the council’s advertising policy, which forms part of the environment committee’s five-year savings targets.

The Mayor of Harrow said he would continue to celebrate the borough’s diversity as he was sworn in at a virtual ceremony.

Cllr Ghazanfar Ali (Lab, Greenhill) was chosen as Harrow’s first citizen for 2021/22 having served as deputy mayor for the previous term.

He took over from Cllr Nitin Parekh (Lab, Edgware), who was at the helm for a unique two-year period due to the disruption brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The rollout of the Covid-19 vaccination programme reached a significant milestone in Haringey after 100,000 people received their first jab.

Figures from the NHS in the month showed 100,600 people across the borough had their first dose of the vaccine, and 40,220 people had both doses.
