Sixteen Loughton Wombles gave up most of their Saturday morning in an organised litter pick in different parts of the town.

A “massive” difference was made in the sections covered and the areas became “litter-free zones”.

A Loughton Council spokesperson said: “The feedback from the group was incredibly positive. Everyone who took part thought it was a very sociable experience, meeting new people and making like-minded friends, with the added benefit of fresh air and healthy exercise.

“After positive feedback from the local community, we are looking forward to holding regular litter picks.

“We wish to encourage more people to volunteer to become a ‘Loughton Wombles’ to unite and take on this problem.”

The group of volunteers get together to coordinate and operate on a regular basis.

Loughton Town Council will provide basic materials such as litter pickers, gloves and ‘Hi Viz’ vests to anyone interested in getting involved.

The council added that you can show your interest in future litter picks by contacting Debbie on 020 8508 4200, or email contact@loughton-tc.gov.uk
