An influencer who has documented her journey with multiple sclerosis (MS) on Instagram has visited the Houses of Parliament to call on the government to address the shortages in vital neurology services.

Roxy Murray, from Harrow, uses her online platform @MultipleSclerosisFashionista to share information about her life with the life-long brain and spinal cord condition.

The condition damages nerves in your body and makes it harder to do everyday things, like walk, talk, eat and think.

The influencer was invited to parliament on October 26 to support the charity’s Neurology Now campaign – which urges the government to provide additional funding and support to help protect people with MS.

There, she told an audience of MPs and peers about the impact not being able to access specialist support over the Covid-19 pandemic has had on her health.

Talking about the condition, she said: "All my care changed drastically over the pandemic. No longer did I have any in-person appointments – people only agreed to see you if they deemed it an absolute emergency.

“My mobility has changed noticeably. My left foot drags behind me, and it constantly feels numb. My balance is off and I keep falling over.

“That’s why I’m supporting the MS Society’s Neurology Now campaign because I strongly believe that NHS neurology services need to be drastically improved.”

She continued: “They are under-staffed and underfunded and need further supporting services to help provide patients with vital treatments.

“It would mean everything to be able to get the help required when we need it as it would help to manage progression.”
