A DRIVER was caught without insurance - because he was trying to find a cheaper quote.

The Castle Point Policing Team stopped the driver on the island over the weekend, after he recently bought the car.

A spokesman for the team said: "The driver of this motor vehicle learnt a valuable lesson on Saturday night.

"Having stopped it on Canvey, PC Sheridan established that the driver had recently purchased it, however they were unhappy with the insurance quote they had obtained and thought it was okay to drive the vehicle whilst still trying to get a better quote. Not so.

"Insurance to cover 3rd party risks is the bare minimum required when driving a motor vehicle on the road. The vehicle has been seized and driver reported to court."
