A mother has paid tribute to her 22-month-old baby who died after being hit by a car.

Police were called on Sunday (October 25) at around 4.15pm to Eastcote Road, Ruislip, by the junction with Kings College Road after a car drove into three people including a baby girl who was in a pushchair.

Officers, including some who were off duty and happened to be in the area, and the London Ambulance Service attended.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the baby, named Xixi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Evening Standard reported that Xixi's mother paid tribute and said the toddler had "the most beautiful smile".

She added: "Her eyes were full of love and laughter. She was our angel, our everything and there isn't a moment that we could stop thinking about her."

A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, suspicion of causing serious injury while driving and on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs.

He was taken into custody before being interviewed and released on bail.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Donegan said: "Our thoughts are with the child's parents at what must be an unimaginably difficult time.

"We have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened and I am asking anyone who was in the vicinity at that time who may have seen something."
