A bus was stopped and a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

Police were originally called to reports of two men shooting guns at Roxeth Recreation Park in Harrow today (September 30) at around 11.20am.

The two men were believed to be in their thirties and left the park before police arrived.

A search was underway to trace the two men and two men who matched their descriptions were traced nearly an hour later at 12.17pm at a bus in Eastcote Lane.

Specialist armed officers stopped the bus in Northolt Road, Harrow, before boarding it to detain and search the two men.

A suspected gun was found on one of the men, and he was arrested on suspicion of possessing a gun and he remains in custody.

Another man was detained and searched but nothing was found.

Metropolitan Police say that they currently do not believe the gun was shot on the bus, and there were no injuries during the incident.

North West Commander Roy Smith said: “We will always work tirelessly to identify and pursue offenders, help bring perpetrators to justice, take weapons off the street, support victims, engage and reassure the public, and keep our communities safe.

“I would like to thank the member of the public who reported their worries to us. We ask everyone to remain vigilant and if you see any suspicious activity, have any concerns, or have any information about suspected criminality, please call police on 101. In an emergency always, dial 999.”
