The pelican crossing on the Fleming Way entry to the Magic Roundabout will soon be a toucan crossing.

The change will allow cyclists to use the crossing by the Esso garage and it will connect the cycle path on Fleming Way to the Eastern Flyer route as well as the wider cycling network around Swindon.

The improvement is part of the government’s emergency active travel fund, which aims to make it easier for people to social distance as they move around town.

Work to upgrade the crossing started last week and should take two weeks to complete.

The work will include the replacement of rusting poles and and an upgrade of the controller and signal heads which will make the crossing easier to maintain and more energy efficient.

Coun Maureen Penny said: “I am delighted that we are able to use these extra funds from government to upgrade this crossing.

“Once the job is complete, cyclists should find it much easier to navigate safely around the Magic Roundabout.”
