A THUG attacked a man at A&E and spouted racist abuse to a police officer.

Daniel Murphy had gone to the accident and emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

There he assaulted Terry Doran.

The 35-year-old also abused PC Tatenda Ngundu while he was there.

Murphy appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court where he admitted assault and causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to PC Ngundu.

He was jailed for six months.

The court was told the incident was “so serious because the offences were committed during the operation of a suspended sentence”.

Murphy, of no fixed address, had appeared in court for an assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Sassu Ghareman-Nejad in King’s Road, Brighton and attacking James Savill there in May.

Then in July he also assaulted John Abbott and Brano Smotek in Brighton.

He will now serve the time behind bars for 23 weeks and was ordered to pay an £80 fine for breaching his sentence.
