A SCHOOLGIRL who set herself an 83 day running target to raise money for the NHS has completed her challenge.

Megan Jenkins,a pupil of Newtown High School completed her challenge running for 83 consecutive days to raise money for the NHS charities.

Megan turned 13 years old just two days after finishing the challenge.

The final run took place around Kerry on the evening of July 22, and Meg ran the last two and a half miles with 26 friends, family and supporters.

There were also many more people cheering her on the way around, and at the finish line.

Over the weeks she has run with friends and family who have really helped to get her to the end.

Meg’s mum Kathy said: “We are overwhelmed by the support and encouragement that everyone has given Meg over the weeks, and we are amazed by people’s generosity.

“It hasn’t been easy as she has ran in all weather, from blistering hot days to sideward rain and wind on the beach when away.”

Megan started her running challenge on May 1 and she is planning to finish at the end of July, days before her 13th birthday.

On average Megan has between two and a half miles to more than three miles a day.

Meg has completed more than 227 miles in the three months and has raised more than £3,000 with gift aid for the charity with money still coming in.

Speaking during the challenge, Meg said: “I’ve never been able to run and never enjoyed it when I had to, so thought this would be a good challenge for me.”

As part of her research, Megan found that there were 83 hospitals in Wales and this is what inspired the idea behind her challenge.

She then decided to run for 83 consecutive days, with each day representing a different hospital in Wales.

In total Megan’s completed challenge has added up to three months of running every day and trying to raise money for charities who help and support the NHS

Meg would like to thank everyone who has supported her throughout the 83 days to reach her goal.
