A series of rowdy parties on the site of a golf club in Loughton have been keeping residents awake late into the night over the last few weeks.

Noise from large gatherings on the site of Loughton Golf Club Spice have caused distress to residents with the latest gathering on Sunday, August 2 starting at 3pm and going on past midnight.

Frustrated residents reported hearing the party from as far away as Theydon Bois on social media and complained about anti-social behaviour continuing into the early hours of the morning.

Epping Forest District Council first visited the site to serve a noise abatement notice on July 29 and again visited the golf club in Clays Lane on Sunday after residents submitted numerous complaints.

Independent Loughton councillor Stephen Murray said: “While I understand and appreciate that young people in particular like to party, it doesn’t seem reasonable that this is done in such a way and also with such a massive amount of lengthy and sustained disruption to the life’s of local residents.

“It comes down to balance and this event seems to me to have overstepped the mark.”

Current government guidelines allow for gatherings of under 30 people. Larger gatherings are banned with exceptions for specific events, and for things like schools and workplaces.

It is currently unclear how many people were in attendance at the golf club but the council has confirmed it is investigating whether a breach of coronavirus rules occurred.

A council spokesperson said: “The council is aware of the issues with loud music from the site, and as a result of recent monitoring, a noise abatement notice was served on the premises licence holder and designated premises supervisor on July 29.

“Further complaints were received on Sunday, August 2 which resulted in the duty noise officer visiting the area and witnessing further loud music from the golf club. The council is therefore looking at what further enforcement may be appropriate to resolve the ongoing issues, at the property including any potential Covid-19 restriction violations.”

Loughton Golf Club has been contacted for comment.
