Shocking photos show the moment a fire engulfed a flat earlier this morning.

Ebony Smith watched on in shock as the flat opposite her in Apple Grove, Harrow, caught fire just before 8.20am.

London Fire Brigade says part of a five-roomed flat on the fourth floor of the building had been engulfed in the blaze.

By the time the fire service arrived, around 35 residents had left the building.

Mrs Smith said: "I was woken up from my sleep and could hear screaming and shouting from outside. I thought it was children playing, as it continued I eventually woke up. I looked out the window to witness a flat on fire opposite me.

"There was smoke everywhere. The fire brigade were fighting the fire for an hour and a half."

The fire brigade says the blaze was under control just after 10am.

One man was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews after suffering from smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
