A TROWBRIDGE man has celebrated Wiltshire Flag Day with his own creation.

Mike Prior flew the flag at his Ashton Street home on Friday June 5 - Wiltshire's official flag day.

When Mr Prior became interested in the world of flags he found out there was not one dedicated to the county of Wiltshire.

Having lived in Wiltshire since 1967 Mike set about creating a Wiltshire flag to honour his adopted county.

After a huge amount of research, and working with his daughter Helen Pocock, the flag was designed with the green and white colours of Wiltshire Council and the image of the Great Bustard, re-introduced onto Salisbury Plain, taking pride of place in the centre.

The official first flag raising took place in September 2006 but it's only recently that Wiltshire has its own flag day.

Mike said: "Now the flag flies all over Wiltshire and it’s a proud moment for me to host the flag on its official day."
