Barnet Council has announced the return of normal parking enforcement following its temporary relaxation during the coronavirus crisis.

Traffic officers will be able to issue penalties for people breaking the rules, and residents have been urged to ensure they have valid permits.

Barnet Council previously suspended enforcement of permit parking bays to allow self-isolating residents and key workers to park during the coronavirus pandemic.

The changes meant people without permits could use resident and business permit-holder bays, shared use bays and single yellow lines in force just for one hour at a time

But with the easing of lockdown restrictions, parking enforcement will return to normal levels on Monday (June 8).

It means residents and visitors must have a valid permit to park within controlled parking zones to avoid receiving a penalty charge notice (PCN).

The council announced it would contact all registered permit holders with advice to help them avoid receiving a PCN.

It is also working on continuing arrangements for key workers that allow them to park in additional locations, such as council-run car parks, free of charge.

People with blue badges that are due to expire, or have expired from January 1, can continue to use them during the Covid-19 pandemic. The council said this will be the case initially until September 30.
