A MEAT thief who breached a restraining order has been hit with a bill of more than £300 by magistrates.

Benjamin John, of Attwood Close, stole £78.63 worth of meat from Aldi in Basingstoke on October 30, last year.

He also attended a Paddock Road address on January 16, 2020, which he had been prohibited from visiting by a restraining order imposed in February, last year.

At Basingstoke magistrates court this week he was fined £200 for breaching the restraining order and made to pay a £32 victim surcharge.

He was also made to pay compensation for the meat he stole.

 

A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed after pleading guilty to assault.

Ezra Puddy, of Breadels Field, appeared at at Basingstoke magistrates court on Friday, January 17, where he admitted to assaulting Thomas Townsend in Knights Park Road on November 16, 2019.

He was committed to prison for two weeks due to the seriousness of the offence and his "numerous" previous convictions. Magistrates made him pay a £122 victim surcharge.

The 20-year-old also admitted to being in possession of a quantity of cannabis on the same day as the assault.

He was made to forfeit the drugs but given no further penalty.

 

A BERKSHIRE man who beat a police officer has been given a community order by magistrates.

David McGuigan, of College Piece, Mortimer, was sentenced to an 18-month community order this week after he assaulted PC Hopkins in Basingstoke by beating her.

The incident happened in December last year and he pleaded guilty to the offence shortly after.

The 30-year-old was also made to pay £100 in compensation, a £90 victim surcharge and £45 in costs.

 

BASINGSTOKE magistrates have handed a 32-year-old woman a £120 bill after she stole around £5 of goods from Co-op.

Shona Stiles, of Cambridge Road, Aldershot, stole £5.70 worth of items from Co-op in Aldershot on September 8, 2019.

She admitted the offence at Basingstoke magistrates court on January 15.

While she was given an 18-month conditional discharge, she was made to pay £50 in compensation, a £21 victim surcharge and £45 in costs.

Magistrates also made her pay £5.70 compensation.

During her court appearance she was also made to pay £14 compensation for drinks and flowers she stole from a Shell garage on December 19. She admitted to the offence just days later but was only sentenced this week.

 

A BASINGSTOKE man accused of harassing a man over a year-and-a-half period will stand trial later this year.

Alex Lowe, of Priestley Road, pleaded not guilty to harassment charges at Basingstoke magistrates court on January 15.

The 46-year-old is accused of "persistently banging" on the front door of Alan Stoddart and also ringing his doorbell, often during the early hours of the morning.

He was remanded on bail until April 24 when he will stand trial at Aldershot magistrates court.

 

A WARRANT has been issued for a man's arrest after he failed to appear in court this week.

Christopher Rainbow had been arrested for assaulting two people - including a police officer - on January 3.

The following day he appeared in court and was released on bail until January 20.

However he failed to attend on that date, prompting magistrates to issue a warrant for his arrest.
