Dr Mahiben Maruthappu, 31, from Stanmore, has been recognised with an MBE for his services to health and social care technology.

He is the co-founder of the NHS Innovation Accelerator, which is introducing ways to counter the most challenging issues facing our health service. The accelerator has created innovations used by 2,100 organisations across the NHS.

Thanks to the innovative work of Dr Maruthappu, he has helped three million people within its first six months and saved millions of pounds.

Interestingly, his work goes beyond just the NHS.

He is also the Founder and CEO of technology-enabled home care provider Cera, which uses artificial intelligence to tackle the growing challenge of social care provision and matches appropriate care workers with patients.

The tool is revolutionary to those involved in social care.

Kurt Marx, 94, from Edgware near the edge of Stanmore, was instead honoured with a BEM for his services to Holocaust Education.

The majority of his family were victims in the German Concentration camp of Maly Trostenets, whom perished.

Since then, sees it as a personal responsibility to ensure that these horrific acts are never forgotten, as he tells the story of his family and other lesser known camps.

Mr Marx has spoken at the site of the Concentration camp his family were at and frequently goes to Cologne at the invitation of the Ober Burgermeister to speak to the children there.

He is also involved in inter-generational panels talking to synagogue groups on the impact of the Holocaust through generations.

This year, the Yom HaShoah ceremony focused on themes of lost communities and lesser known sites of mass murder, thanks to the help of Mr Marx.
