As 2020 approaches, council officers were forced to intervene after evidence of abuse to a great-grandmother at a Brent care home.

An investigation was launched at Meera House, in Stag Lane, following concerns around the treatment of 94-year-old Paniben Shah, which the family set up a hidden camera.

Recordings showed carers verbally abusing, threatening, hitting, roughly handling and dripping boiling water on Ms Shah in March 2018.

At Harrow Crown Court on November 29 Anita Kc Thapa, 46, Anita Bc, 49, both from Edgware, and Heena Parekh, 55, from Borehamwood, were jailed for a total of one year and three months. Dolan Roy, 39, and Moumita Roy, 34, both from Wembley, were both given community orders.

Thirty trees were planted at Byron Recreation Ground as part of a scheme proposed by the Mayor of London.

The Friends of Byron Park and Harrow Council managed to obtain these trees in time for National Tree Week which takes place between November 23 and December 1.

Sadiq Khan funded the distribution of 55,000 trees for community groups in London to plant.

Major works to provide step-free access at Harrow-on-the-Hill station are “on schedule” despite concerns they may have stalled.

It comes after some residents suggested the improvement works – which includes the installation of four new lifts and a new overbridge – had stopped.

They are set to be completed in Spring 2020.
