In December, Liberal Democrat Daisy Cooper took the parliamentary seat from Conservative Anne Main by 28,867 votes to 22,574.

Mrs Cooper told the St Albans Review that “it feels brilliant” and she “feels absolutely delighted.”

In her victory speech she thanked her team and paid tribute to Anne Main.

She added: “It’s an absolute honour to be elected the Liberal Democrat MP for St Albans.

“Despite all our political differences, Anne you have given 14 years of public service to St Albans and to Parliament, and I would like to give a very sincere tribute to that.”


Plans to increase the limit on the number of passengers using Luton Airport were opposed by St Albans District Council and Hertfordshire County Council.

The airport wants to increase the capacity of passengers to 32 million a year by 2040, up from 18 million.

At a meeting earlier this month at a meeting St Albans council’s planning referrals committee spoke out against the plans and councillors agreed to send a “strong objection" to the airport highlighting the impact of noise and air pollution.


Former homeless man, Phil Bradshaw from St Albans spent part of December sailing to the Thames to collect gifts from people without a home and their pets.

He travelled with his 13-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier, Lucky.

He made eleven stops to collect donations of dog toys and food vouchers for the homeless this Christmas.
