In September a family were left “over the moon” after their stolen dog, Harmony, was tracked down in Birmingham.

The three-legged Staffordshire bull terrier was snatched from outside Tesco Metro, in St Peter’s Street, St Albans, after she was left outside by owner Colin French.

Mr French’s sister Katie Corley issued a desperate appeal on Facebook to find the dog who had been left tied up outside the shop.

It was shared thousands of times as police launched a hunt to find Harmony who were later able to reunite her with her family.

Former St Albans MP Anne Main asked the community to be heard on Luton Airport noise disturbance.

She wrote to aviation minister MP Paul Maynard asking him to meet with people living in the city to hear their frustrations.

She said: “The new aviation minister needs to understand the strength of feeling locally on this issue.

“There is due to be a major expansion at Luton and Heathrow in the next few years and the government must ensure this is managed in a way that more fairly distributes out the noise.”

Later in the month there were a series of crashes and flooding caused chaos during rush hour on September 24.

Journey times were doubled after crashes on the M25 and the M1 leading to grid locks on roads around St Albans, Watford and Rickmansworth.

Surface water and burst water mains also caused huge problems for motorists with a number of floods particularly across St Albans.

Holywell Hill was flooded near the entrance to Verulamium Park with drivers forced to crawl slowly through the water.
