A Conservative activist feared she was the victim of an acid attack after being sprayed with perfume.

British Transport Police says it was made aware of a report that a woman had an irritant sprayed in her face by a group of five to six youths at High Barnet Tube Station at 2.56pm today (December 11).

Police say the woman was treated at the scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution. She is not believed to have sustained any injuries.

Conservative sources believe the incident was not politically motivated. The Barnet Times understands the substance sprayed was perfume.

BTP said in a statement: “Enquiries are in their early stages but anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 398 of 11/12.”
