A cubs scout group held a variety of activities including a silent auction to help a charity prevent child abuse.

St Albans Cubs organised an event last month that saw families and friends take part in tombola, apple bobbing and ping pong.

There was also a silent auction with donations from businesses in the community.

The group raised more than £400 from the event.

The money raised was donated to National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), a charity which works to prevent child abuse.

Cub leader Nicky Vellacott said: “The cubs were so excited and enthusiastic about raising money for children less fortunate than them and I’m so proud for all their efforts.”

The event was part of the charity’s new campaign Get Your Sparkle on Christmas which will see other groups and companies raise money for NSPCC.

NSPCC community fundraising manager for Hertfordshire Deborah Knights said: “We’re delighted with all the work the St Albans cub have achieved with showing their support to the charity.

“The money raised can teach at least three primary school classes how to recognise abuse and report it to us.”
