A major road is shut this evening after a three-vehicle crash.

Two people were reported trapped following the collision in Coopers Green Lane, St Albans, just before 3pm today.

Emergency services were called to the scene including police, firefighters, paramedics, and an air ambulance.

At the scene was a grey BMW 220D, a black Audi A3, and a blue BMW 218i.

Two people were trapped but Hertfordshire Constabulary says they have been safely released from their vehicles.

Police add that they are conscious and breathing and are being taken to hospital.

A firefighter reported three casualties in total were taken to hospital.

A road closure is currently in place to allow the vehicles to be recovered.

Coopers Green Lane is closed between the junctions of Sandpit Lane and Woodcock Hill.

There is some congestion in the area.
