Landowners by a row of garages have been ordered to clean up a “huge” fly-tip after multiple complaints from passers-by.

Harrow Council served a notice to the responsible parties in Welldon Crescent, Harrow, to deal with the build-up of rubbish.

Pictures taken by those living nearby showed piles of irresponsibly discarded waste, including furniture, shopping trollies and clothes.

One resident bemoaned a lack of input from politicians or the police, suggesting it is unclear who is responsible for dealing with the issue.

She added drug users often gather around and sometimes live out of the garages.

A spokesman for Harrow Council said the mess constituted a public health risk and it warned landowners that further action will be taken if necessary.

He said: “This is a result of the landowners not taking responsibility or maintaining their land.

“No one should have to put up with this sort of behaviour, and nor should the taxpayer clear up their mess.

“Just because it’s private land, doesn’t mean we’re sitting back.

We’ve taken legal action and served notice on the landowner to clear the mess that’s a risk to public health as well as get them to move people who are living in the garages.

“We’ll continue to monitor the situation and take further action if deemed necessary. Residents should continue to report all environmental issues through our website.”
