Councillors are encouraging constituents to follow their lead and think about getting involved in local government.

Three serving Brent councillors will lead a discussion on what it’s like to be a councillor and how people can become one.

Part of Brent Council’s local democracy week, its ‘Be a Councillor’ event takes place at the civic centre on Tuesday (October 15) at 7pm.

The panel will talk attendees through the role and responsibilities of being a councillor and there will be information for those with ambitions of joining them in the council.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “Getting involved in local democracy is really important; it is the best way for local people to have their voices heard about local issues.

“Becoming a councillor gives you a chance to make a difference to the quality of life for people in your local area, represent your community and help shape the future of your borough.”

Those interested in the event can sign up by searching ‘Be a Councillor’ at www.eventbrite.co.uk or calling 020 8937 1068.
