A bar has lost its licence after evidence suggested it sold alcohol, permitted shisha smoking and hosted belly dancing events without permission.

Brent Council’s licensing committee revoked the premises licence of Amira Lounge, in Heather Park Drive, following recommendations from the police and council officers.

Neighbouring residents also complained about late-night noise associated with the bar and suggested it was operating way outside its licensed hours.

Yusuf Aljarrah, who applied for the initial licence, did not attend the council’s review hearing.

The committee heard how licensing officers found clear evidence of shisha, including ash, coals, pipes and tobacco.

They also found large quantities of alcohol stored away and discovered the bar had been advertising belly dancing events at the site.

The bar’s licence did not permit any of these activities and officers noted that, during one visit, it had breached 18 out of 37 conditions.

“It looks like [Mr Aljarrah] just wants to run a business illegally,” one licensing officer said.

“He’s clearly upset residents and, based on what we now know, I believe he will just carry on.”

She called for the licence to be revoked due to “insufficient management” and was supported by the police who said they had “no confidence” in the current set-up.

Officers also expressed concerns about the “disgusting” state of the premises’ kitchen and what appeared to be a “fully-functioning” bedroom at the site.

They added that they made several attempts to contact Mr Aljarrah, but he failed to completely respond to their requests.

The committee agreed that it appeared the business had been selling alcohol without permission and was a “serious source of nuisance” to neighbouring properties.

It revoked the licence on grounds that it did not have confidence in the current management.
