WINCHESTER: Beneath our Feet is a special day looking at different aspects of archaeology in the city on Sunday July 21.

It is the local contribution to the Council for British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology, 2019.

A table top exhibition will feature material from Cotswold Archaeology and Pre-Construct Archaeology, Winchester Excavation Committee, Hampshire Cultural Trust, Winchester City Council, Council for British Archaeology, Winchester University, Hyde 900, Hampshire Field Club and Archaeological Society, and WARG, the Society for Winchester Archaeology and Local History.

P&G Wells will run a book stall.

There will be a programme of talks, starting at 12 noon with Professor Martin Biddle, Winchester: walking in the ‘footsteps’ of Alfred the Great. We still walk on the Anglo-Saxon streets, and Prof Biddle will discuss their evolution.

At 1pm, Dick Selwood will present 60 years of Winchester Archaeology and at 2pm Nick Thorpe of the University of Winchester will be revealing The Secrets of a Roman Temple.

During the day there will be the chance to get hands on with geophysics on Oram’s Arbour with David Ashby of the University of Winchester.

There will be updates on the Hampshire Cultural Trust website, https://www.hampshireculture.org.uk/event/winchester-beneath-our-feet
