SIX drivers were caught by police exceeding 100mph on Lancashire’s roads last year up from four in 2017.

Two of the 2018 offenders were doing 105mph in the 60 zone on the A59 Skipton Road.

Three other drivers were recorded doing even higher speeds on the county’s roads by the police.

The fastest was a motorist caught at 117mph in a 50mph zone on the A565 Southport New Road. A car was recorded at 116mph in a 30 zone on the A5230 Squires Gate Lane and another at 113mph in a 60mph limit on the A570 Rainford Road.

Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, leader of Pendle Council, said: “We all too often learn of people being killed on our roads due to speed. It’s disappointing that some still ignore the safety of others and put their own life at risk with such excessive speeds."
