Five schools competed in a quiz testing pupils' knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Avanti House Secondary School in Stanmore welcomed representatives from nearby Stanburn Primary School, Krishna Avanti Harrow, Krishna Avanti Leicester, Avanti House Stanmore, and Avanti Court Redbridge on July 8 for the second ever STEM fair.

Led by Avanti teacher Moiz Kapasi, students were put though a series of challenging questions.

The fair also provided an opportunity to share some of the projects put together by the pupils which focused on questioning of free radicals, the heart and its function, the physics and engineering of a loop de loop and many more.

The STEM trophy was awarded to Peter from Stanburn Primary School. His project was centred on the question “How does the food you eat affect the pH of your body?”

Peter tested three different diets and measured how his and his parent’s bodies adapted. Judges were impressed by the level of detail Peter had gone into in all aspects of his project.

The inaugural Maths Quest was won by Krishna Avanti Primary Leicester which won the Avanti STEM Cup in its first year.
