Would-be burglars set fire to a post office cash machine but ended up fleeing the scene empty handed.

Police and firefighters were called to a burning ATM in Abbots Langley High Street at 2.17am this morning.

Emergency services had received reports of smoke and flames and crews arrived to put out the fire.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says nothing has been reported stolen and no one was injured. A black Audi was seen speeding away.

This morning, three police officers were at the scene and the post office was cordoned off. There is some fire damage to the brick wall.

Harrow Times:

It is second attack, at least, on an ATM in the area this summer.

On June 13, burglars stole a considerable amount of cash after blowing up the Co-op cash machine in Cunningham Way, Leavesden, with a gas canister. On that occasion, three men were seen leaving the store in a white Mercedes.

An investigation has been launched and anyone with any information on the incident in Abbots Langley can contact police on 101 quoting ISR 48 of July 15.
