Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden spends a lot of his time in Westminster but Fridays give him an opportunity to go out and about around the borough.

Mr Dowden is invited to many events - and here is what he's been up to in May and June.

Most recently, the MP met with Hertfordshire County Council to discuss the future of school capacity in Hertsmere.

He met Cllr Terry Douris, cabinet member for education at the county council, and his deputy Cllr Mark Mills-Bishop.

Mr Dowden says he knows constituents are concerned about the number of school places, especially as Hertsmere is at an advanced stage with its local plan which will identify sites for thousands of new homes over the next 15 years. In Borehamwood, outline planning permission has been granted for a primary school near Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood.

Speaking of Hertswood Academy, Mr Dowden met head teacher Peter Gillett for a tour of the new £32m school building, which is nearing completion and expected to be ready for new pupils in September.

He was at another school, Yavneh College, where he sat down with year sixth form politics students. Brexit, the environment, and homelessness was on the agenda.

Elsewhere in Borehamwood, the MP went behind the scenes at the in-store bakery in Tesco following an invitation.

Mr Dowden has also been to Aldenham Reservoir. He said some people had been in touch with concerns about proposals at the lake for a new business venture. He said it is "vitally important" the sailing club has a "future".

Bushey Acoustic Festival, held on June 3, was opened by Mr Dowden ahead of an afternoon of live music and entertainment while he also paid a visit to Fishers Field Nature Reserve in Bushey for tea, cake, and a tour of the reserve. He had been invited down by the Friends of Fishers Field.

Following his visit, Mr Dowden said: "It was fantastic to see the wonderfully vibrant natural environment that’s been created by the hard work of everyone who gives up their time to maintain the reserve.

"I’m grateful for the warm hospitality I was shown, including some delicious tea and cakes."
