Police have made an arrest in connection with an investigation into a number of speeches associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Pakistan.

A 60-year-old man was arrested at an address in north west London on suspicion of intentionally encouraging or assisting offences contrary to Section 44 of the Serious Crime Act 2007.

He was taken to a south London police station after being detained and is being held in custody.

Officers are carrying out a search at the north west London address as part of the investigation, with detectives also searching a separate commercial address in north west London.

The investigation, led by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, focuses on a speech that was broadcast in August 2016 by an individual associated with the MQM movement in Pakistan.

Other speeches previously broadcast by the same person are also being looked at.

Officers have been liaising with Pakistani authorities in relation to ongoing enquiries throughout the investigation.

Enquires are continuing.
