The police helicopter was called in after a suspected stolen motorbike failed to stop.

Just after 10.30pm last night, the bike activated an automatic number plate recognition camera in Watford and police officers were deployed to the area.

When they found the bike, the rider failed to stop, riding the wrong way round a roundabout and on the wrong side of a road, before riding through woodland near the A41.

Eventually, the rider ditched the bike and ran off. The bike, a silver Honda CG, which is believed to be stolen, was recovered by police.

The dog unit and helicopter then supported police to search for their suspect.

  • A 17-year-old from Watford was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop, driving uninsured and dangerous driving. He was further arrested for driving whilst under the influence of drugs, believed to be cannabis and cocaine, after failing a roadside drugs test. He has been released under investigation.
