A group of travellers have begun to leave a park after council officers and police visited the site this morning.

Several caravans have been parked up on a field in South Way, on the edge of Leavesden, after arriving on Monday.

Three Rivers District Council officers and police have made visits to the encampment, and yesterday the council served a notice of direction which meant the group had to leave by 6pm on Tuesday.

Harrow Times:

But the order was ignored and the council was expected to go to a magistrates court today where it hoped to be granted a removal order which allowed them to take more forceful action to move the group on.

However, the council has confirmed that a number of the travellers have left the site at around lunchtime today (Wednesday) - before further legal action was taken.

Following the encampment, council leader, Cllr Sara Bedford, said: "This land is a valuable area for wildlife and contains a number of different habitats encouraging biodiversity. The council is taking all necessary legal action to ensure the travellers move off the site within a short period of time."
