A multi-million-pound overhaul of a footbridge at Harrow and Wealdstone station is underway.
The £3.8 million project will see improvements to the stairs, lift and bridge, which serves six platforms.
According to Network Rail, the bridge’s steelwork is being repaired, while new windows and flooring is set to be installed before it is repainted.
Cllr Keith Ferry, responsible for planning and regeneration at Harrow Council, said: “We’ve lobbied for many years for some improvements to Harrow and Wealdstone station – it is, after all, one of our most-used and most important transport hubs.
“Things are looking up in Wealdstone, and I look forward to seeing a station we can be proud of once again – shiny, pristine and sparkling.”
His words were echoed by Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, who said these improvements were “essential” for all passengers who use the station.
The bridge will remain open while the refurbishments take place, though, at times, space will be restricted.
Step free access will be maintained during the works and train services will not be disrupted.
The project is scheduled to be completed by December.
