A burglar broke into a charity café to steal a collection box meant for feeding people with little to no money.

The theft happened at around midnight today in Market Street, Watford, at the One Vision Café.

Staff discovered the crime hours later when they came in at around 7am - £100 had been stolen and the glass door had been smashed in.

The police say they were called at 7.53am.

The chairman of the charity café, Enoch Kanagaraj explained that he felt upset at the situation, but was grateful for the people already offering help on social media with repairs on the door.

He said: “I feel ashamed that somebody would be desperate enough to do this.

“We try to feed people and help but this happens.

“This is a pay as can café you can pay a penny or nothing some people give twenty pounds for a meal and a coffee.

“I’m more devastated about how someone can do this, but I understand why.

“People in a desperate situation can commit crimes.”
