Dementia is the biggest health threat facing society and there are currently no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure it.
Today, almost a million people are living with dementia in the UK. Too often they struggle alone, feeling as though their world has been turned upside down and often facing prejudice or misunderstanding.
But a revolution is growing – on the streets and in the laboratories. Scientists are gaining on dementia. Their knowledge will pioneer breakthroughs and transform lives. But they can’t do it alone. We must bring dementia out of the shadows, so that people living with this devastating condition can lead more fulfilling lives.
As Charity of the Year for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK are joining forces to make a stand against dementia and power the most ambitious dementia research endeavour the UK has ever seen – the UK Dementia Research Institute.
The Dementia Revolution is a year-long campaign which aims to raise awareness of dementia, overthrow old attitudes and power ground-breaking dementia research.
Volunteering is a great way to contribute to the Dementia Revolution. Raise your voice for the Revolution by cheering on our runners at the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon. You’ll help encourage runners around the marathon route, raising much needed awareness and funds towards a cure for dementia.
As part of a high-energy squad, you will help to create a unique atmosphere for thousands of Dementia Revolution runners – including Barbara’s Revolutionaries. The Revolutionaries have come together inspired by their friend Dame Barbara Windsor, and are led by Barbara’s husband Scott Mitchell.
