Northwood’s outside chances of obtaining a Bostik League South Central Division play-off place were dented at the weekend as they were shocked 2-0 by already-relegated Egham Town.

Anthony Thomas and Brandon McCarthy got the goals that sealed the win for the visitors, who are 10 points adrift of the nearest team to them in the table.

Kweku Lucan, in for the injured Trey Charles, had the first real chance of the game when he burst down the wing, but his cross evaded everybody and went out.

The away side got what they deserved soon after though, and took the lead when Thomas, who had been a nuisance up until that point, caught out Luke Sheldrick when he looped a long ball over the keeper and into the net.

Egham kept up the pressure in the second half and doubled their lead shortly after the restart when McCarthy received the ball on the edge of the area and fizzed a shot beyond the stretching Sheldrick and into the bottom corner.

Northwood’s attempts to find a consolation late on came to nothing, and they now sit seven points shy of a play-off place with five games to go.

Berkhamsted were also dealt a blow in their bid for the Evo Stik League South Division One Central play-offs as they lost 3-1 at fellow candidates Corby Town.

Jordon Crawford opened the scoring after only 17 minutes when he was released down the left and easily slotted past Xavi Comas-Leon.

Matt Bateman and Jonathan Lacey both missed good opportunities for Berko before the hosts doubled their advantage through Joel Carta, but Bateman did add his name to the scoring in the second half to cut the deficit.

Carta’s header though made the game safe for Corby, who look nailed on for a play-off spot.

Berko were also in action on Tuesday as a young side exited the City Security Services cup at the quarter-final stage against Lowestoft.

Cion Wren scored the only goal early in the first half to set up a semi-final tie against Stratford Town.
