A nationwide dessert delivery service won a year’s worth of business support from Harrow Council after triumphing in the latest ‘Business Den’ competition.

Letterbox Brownies – which delivers sweet treats through people’s doors – was crowned the winner of this year’s event at Harrow Civic Centre.

Owner Teresa Faley will receive various forms of support, including financial backing, as she looks to grow her business.

She said: “It feels fantastic to be the 2019 Harrow Business Den winner – I’m still on a high.

“It was such a great night and, although the pitch was nerve-racking, it was really enjoyable.

“Everyone’s feedback on the idea has been so positive and I’m really looking forward to the year’s worth of business support that I have won – I know it’s going to make a huge difference to my business.”

Teresa had to battle it out alongside three other finalists as they all pitched their various ideas to a panel of experts.

She explained that the idea stemmed from an early passion for baking and, after a few tweaks, she was able to make sure that her cakes can fit through a letterbox.

As well as taking individual orders, she also created an option for businesses to buy in bulk as gifts to send to clients – this, she explained, currently makes up 80 per cent of her sales.

Cllr Graham Henson, leader of Harrow Council, said he was delighted to offer council support to Letterbox Brownies, citing it as an example of promoting local entrepreneurs.

He said: “If it’s true that food is the best way to the heart, then Teresa has done a great job with her delicious brownies.

“Although she is in the early stages with her business, she has something truly special and, most importantly, has the passion and drive to take it forward.”
