Oxhey Jets moved up to eighth in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Arlesey Town on Tuesday night.

Kyle Johnson struck in the 81st minute to break the deadlock, latching onto George Hobson’s through ball, and the lead was doubled when a defender turned Ollie Lawford’s cross into his own net.

Arlesey made it a nervy finish when their unmarked striker drove home in injury time, but the hosts held of for all three points.

The Jets were also aided by a point in their home encounter against Baldock Town on Saturday, a game they drew 1-1.

Baldock took the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, but George Turner fired in at the back post after an excellent free-kick delivery to secure a point.

Elsewhere, Kieran Turner’s penalty helped Tring Athletic maintain their strong title hopes with a late 1-0 success over London Colney on Tuesday night.

Both sides looked dangerous in the first half, but it remained 0-0 until the break and for a large portion of the second period too, until controversy struck late on.

The referee pointed to the spot in the 85th minute for handball, and once he had dished out two yellow cards and one red card for the appeals, Turner stepped up to convert the winner.

Bovingdon failed to carry their league form into the Division Two Cup as they exited at the semi-final stage with a 4-0 loss against Aston Clinton.

Taylor Collins, Chris Stapleton, Lamar Mason-Williams and Joe Kittle got the goals for the side who sit sixth in Division Two, but Bovingdon still lead the way in the league, three points ahead of Berkhamsted Raiders with three games in hand.

Finally, Leverstock Green took a big step towards moving away from the Premier Division relegation spots on Tuesday with a 1-1 draw at home to Biggleswade FC.

Wesley Iroegbu gave Levy a first-half lead when visiting keeper Sam Wyer dropped the ball at his feet for an easy finish, but the lead lasted just eight minutes as Tom Cookman headed in Michael Simpson’s cross.

While this was a deserved point against the side in third place, last Saturday’s result did not help the team as they lost 1-0 to bottom side Stotfold.

Ryan McEvoy scored the only goal 15 minutes from time in a game that Leverstock completed with nine players after late red cards for Mark Smith and Luke Preedy, while Stotfold also had George Ezekiel sent off late on.
