An optician has received an award for the best small business of the year.

New Vision Opticians, in Rayners Lane, Harrow, won the award for ‘small business of the year’ for the second year running at the London Asian business awards in 2018.

Husband and wife Aman and Aarti Sawhney, who have run the business for 10 years, were presented with the award at a ceremony at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington.

Aarti Sawhney said: “There has been a lot of recognition of our hard work as a small business. It makes you want to work even harder.

“Our tenth anniversary is coming up and will hopefully give entrepreneurs inspiration. If the passion is in the business, you can certainly do it.”

The couple in the importance of the community and giving back to the public and have raised money to help treat muscular dystrophy through the Smile with Shiv fund, which filters through to Duchenne UK.

Over the past four years they have raised just over £30,000 with annual charity days with small businesses.

This year, to celebrate their ten years in business, they hope to hold a charity gala for the cause.

Aarti added: “Behind a small business there is a personality and family.”
