A man stabbed twice, once in the neck, is turning his life around thanks to music.

Kyle Bennett, 26, has been to prison and stabbed on two occasions, but was determined to write a different end to his story.

He has now launched his own clothing brand and writes music to express his emotions and help overcome the difficulties of his past.

Two years ago, Mr Bennett was stabbed in the neck by a stranger in Wood Street, Walthamstow.

He credits making music with helping him to path the way to a better life.

Mr Bennett was jailed for his involvement with the riots in August 2011.

When he came out of prison, he said the Chingford area had changed.

“My estate started having problems: there was a lot of gang violence.

“I was in a dark place. I would see people I used to talk to and have to walk past them because I did not want to have problems with anyone.”

Mr Bennett also suffered three stabbings on two separate occasions.

The first stabbing involved knife wounds to his arm and side.

The second time, he was stabbed in the neck by a stranger on the street.

He said: “I was in Walthamstow, I saw a guy behind me out of the corner of my eye and assumed he was going to the gym.

"I tried to get away, but he came up behind me and stabbed me in the neck."

These events forced Mr Bennett to take a hard look at his life, inspiring him to change his circumstance.

To change his story, he launched a clothing brand called Style On Them selling menswear.

“I decided I have to make a change and do better with my life I decided to start a brand called Style On Them because I didn’t want to go back to prison and really wanted to be a role model to the younger generation.”

Now, with his music and clothing brand Mr Bennett is hoping to motivate young people and show them that where you are born does not define your prospects.

Mr Bennett said: “Most of the music that I make now is about pain because I want to get that out of the way first.

“I’m trying to find my way in the world of music.

“To me, music is like counselling. It makes everything better because the artists that I listen to and words they sing is something that I can relate to: I am not the only one.

“So that’s what I want to do with my music.”

He said: “I found a passion for music I think about music everyday it allows me to express myself and I feel I can voice my opinion plus they may be someone going through what I’ve been through if not worse.

“I aim to motivate the people and make them realise anything is possible don’t let your current situation define who you are.

“In a few years time I aim to start a movement about depression and for people suffering if they needed someone to talk to.”
