Oxhey Jets signed off 2018 in disappointing fashion as they fell to a 3-0 loss at Colney Heath on Saturday.

The defeat leaves Jets 13th in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division, although they do have games in hand on some of the sides above them in the table.

Heath took the lead midway through the first half when Andy Sears-Black nodded the ball on for Spencer Clarke-Mardel to head past Oxhey keeper Matt Evans.

Jets found chances hard to come by but Sam Adetiba went close when his shot was well saved by Tom Blackman.

But Colney doubled their lead when Dan Westmore curled in his first goal for the club.

A familiar face then added the third soon after when former Jets player Chris Blunden cut into the area and beat several players before firing low into the net. It was also his first goal for Heath.

There was similar disappointment for Leverstock Green as they lost 3-0 at Hadley, but Tring Athletic have started the new year with a two-point advantage at the top of the table after defeating Cockfosters 3-1.

Athletic spurned a great chance to take the lead when Carl Mensah smashed a penalty over the bar, and the hosts were to fall behind six minutes before the interval when Reece Mosanya capitalised on a quick break.

However, Tring were to be level within two minutes as James Verney netted with a superb free-kick from 25 yards.

Verney was to take his tally to three goals in just his second appearance for the club in first-half injury-time when he slotted home from a Ashton Campbell pull back.

Floodlight problems forced the second half to be delayed by 25 minutes, but the crucial third arrived just past the hour-mark when George Ironton netted his first for the club.

The year ended on a winning note for Bovingdon as well after they triumphed 2-0 at neighbours Sarratt thanks to Sean Brettell and a Matt Standen penalty.

The win leaves Bovingdon second in Division Two, three four points behind Berkhamsted Raiders but having played four games fewer.
